Noriko Uno, 66, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after her car collided with the center divider on a street in Upland, California. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Uno was driving south on Euclid Avenue near 23rd Street, the afternoon of August 28, 2009, when her Toyota Camry crossed over the center divider and briefly headed south in the northbound lanes. Natasha Rester, 17, sustained critical injuries in a Riverside car accident after striking another car while pulling out of a parking lot the afternoon of August 26, 2009. According to news report in The Press Enterprise, a Ford Explorer driven by 58-year-old Sidney Hernandez was heading west on Riverside Drive in Lake Elsinore, California. A Toyota Corolla driven by Natasha Rester then pulled out of a parking lot in front of the SUV and was broadsided. Rester suffered major injuries to her spleen, pelvis and back. A 45-year-old man was critically injured in a Los Angeles car accident after his car collided with a Los Angeles Police Department patrol vehicle before striking a third car, according to an Associated Press news report. The multi-car accident occurred the night of August 25, 2009 when the officers in the patrol car were answering a call to assist another officer. Los Angeles fire officials say the patrol car had its lights and sirens on. Both the officers in the police car were taken to a hospital with minor head and neck injuries, but were said to be in stable condition. The driver of the third vehicle that was hit was not injured. A 27-year-old member of the U.S. Navy was killed in a San Diego motorcycle accident the late afternoon of August 24, 2009, according to a 10news report. The man apparently lost control of his 2007 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle and went sliding across the double yellow line and into opposing traffic in the 9000 block of Harmony Grove Road in Escondido, California. The man was almost instantly run over by a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by an Escondido woman. Speed or alcohol was not factors in this fatal motorcycle accident, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Matthew Brian Ramirez, 20, was killed in a hit-and-run San Bernardino car accident early morning August 24, 2009, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports. Ramirez was found in the southbound lanes of Haven Avenue near Wilson Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino Sheriff's officials said. Ramirez had apparently been at a pool party earlier that day. He was hit by a vehicle when walking home after getting in an argument with some people at the party, police said. Ramirez was hit by a 2002 to 2004 gray or silver Toyota Camry or Solara based on the debris left at the scene. The driver of the car did not stop. Jessica Hwang, 16, was killed and three other teenagers were injured, in a Los Angeles car accident the evening of August 20, 2009, according to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. Hwang was in the car with her close friends Michelle Lin and Esther Hong and an unidentified male driver, traveling on Grand Avenue, when another car forced them off the road at the intersection of Grand and Old Brea Canyon Road in Industry, California, close to the 60 Freeway. Esther, 17, and Michelle 16, were hospitalized with major injuries. The male driver was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the other car reportedly fled the car accident. A female pedestrian was injured in an Orange County car accident the morning of August 21, 2009 after she was hit by a car while walking in a crosswalk in front of an elementary school in Anaheim, California. According a news report in The Orange County Register, a woman was driving a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser near the intersection of Palm Lane and Loara Street in front of Palm Lane School, when it struck a parked silver Toyota Tacoma before hitting the pedestrian in the crosswalk. The female pedestrian was taken to the hospital with injuries. Anaheim fire officials said it was fortunate that the car hit the parked truck first because it likely slowed down the vehicle.
