An 8-year-old boy sustained critical injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the major injury collision occurred the evening of April 30, 2010 in the 100 block of North Pasadena Avenue in Azusa. Police officials do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved. The boy was apparently not wearing a helmet. He was transported to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition. The driver has not been cited or arrested pending an investigation.

I sympathize deeply with the family of this injured child for what they are going through at this time. My thoughts and prayers go out to them. I hope this boy recovers quickly and completely from his serious injuries.

Whose fault was this crash? Was the driver of the vehicle distracted, driving recklessly or simply inattentive at the time of the collision? Did the driver break any traffic laws such as running a red light or failing to yield right-of-way? Holding Negligent Parties Accountable

In such cases, victims or their families would be well-advised to retain an experienced personal injury attorney in Los Angeles, who will make sure that the negligent parties are held accountable and that the victims' rights are protected. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to determine whether a dangerous or defective roadway condition caused the accident. If that was the case, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining the roadway could also be held liable. Under California Government Code section 911.2, any such claim against a governmental agency must be filed within 180 days of the accident or injury.
