Police in Montclair are looking for the public's help to get more details about a major California car accident caused by a suspected drunk driver, which seriously injured two people. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, a 1991 Jeep Wrangler was traveling north on Ramona early morning on July 19, 2009 when it was struck in an intersection by a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup truck driven by Rogelio Ocon Jr., 30. The truck was going west on Mission Boulevard. The Wrangler reportedly spun several times. Both the driver and the passenger of the Jeep were ejected and severely injured, Montclair police officials say.

Police also believe that Ocon was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the car crash. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. If you have more information about this DUI car collision, please contact Montclair police at 909-448-3600.

My heart goes out to the two victims who were severely injured in this car accident as a result of Ocon's negligence and callous disregard for public safety. I wish the two victims the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were two fatalities and 32 injuries involving alcohol-related car crashes in Montclair. In San Bernardino County as a whole, 105 fatalities and 1,174 injuries were reported in 2007 as a result of alcohol-related car accidents.

Driving under the influence is a serious violation under California law. The California Vehicle Code prohibits motorists from operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher. It is also illegal to drive under the influence of drugs – recreational or prescription. California Vehicle Code section 23152 (a) states: "It is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle."

I sincerely hope police find out more information about this horrific car crash. If Ocon was driving recklessly or found to be under the influence of alcohol he should be held civilly and criminally responsible for this accident and resulting injuries. The injured victims in this case would be well advised to consult an experienced California personal injury lawyer who will analyze all aspects of this case, determine the facts and help hold the negligent parties accountable.
