One person was hospitalized with injuries in an Orange County car accident after two cars -- a white Volkswagen R32 and a gold colored Toyota Prius -- collided on the 91 Freeway, in Anaheim, the afternoon of February 24, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the injury collision occurred on the westbound 91 Freeway near Euclid Street. California Highway Patrol officials said the driver of the Toyota Prius was driving recklessly just before the crash. The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to a local hospital with possible neck and back injuries.

I sincerely hope the victim in this case did not sustain any serious injuries and that he makes a quick and complete recovery.

Car Accident Statistics

According to CHP's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 21 fatalities and 2,018 injuries involving car accidents in Anaheim, California. In Orange County as a whole, car accidents claimed 152 lives and caused 13,414 injuries during the same year.

Car Accident Causes

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear how and why this collision occurred. All we know was that the driver of the Toyota Prius may have been driving recklessly just before the collision. The question here is: What caused the Toyota driver to operate the vehicle recklessly? Was he or she simply being careless? Was the driver under the influence at the time? Was there a vehicle defect in the Toyota that caused the car to go out of control? Is this Prius on the list of vehicles recalled for possible brake defects? Numerous consumers have reported that some Prius model brakes fail when they go over uneven pavement or a pothole. Is that what occurred here or was it the driver's fault? I trust CHP investigators are looking into these and other issues to find some answers.

Claim for Compensation

If you have been injured in a car accident, it is very important that you get prompt medical attention. Even injuries that seem minor -- such as neck or back pain -- can require extended treatment or therapy especially, if left untreated. Injured victims in such cases, can file a claim with the at-fault driver's insurance and seek compensation to cover any medical expenses and loss of wages incurred as a result of the injuries. An experienced Anaheim personal injury lawyer will be able to help victims get fair compensation for their injuries and losses. A knowledgeable car accident lawyer will also be able to advise victims about how their car insurance policy applies to an incident involving an uninsured or underinsured motorist.
