Two women sustained injuries in an Orange County car accident after one vehicle crossed into opposing traffic lanes and struck another, the afternoon of January 28, 2010. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a 24-year-old woman in a Buick, eastbound on Santiago Canyon Road in Orange, went across the center divider and crashed head-on with a Porsche Cayenne headed west. The driver of the Buick had to be freed from the car and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Porsche, a 33-year-old woman, was also taken to an area hospital with injuries.
My heart goes out to both these women who were injured in this horrific collision. I sincerely hope that both recover quickly and completely. Please keep them in your prayers.
Car Accident Statistics
There were 10 fatalities and 814 injuries involving car accidents in Orange, according to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Orange County as a whole, 178 deaths and 14,185 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during the same year.
Car Accident Causes
Based on this news report, it was the driver of the Buick who lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the Porsche, which was traveling in the other direction. But the big question here is: Why did the Buick go out of control and into opposing lanes of traffic? Was there a vehicle defect, which caused the driver to lose control? Was the driver impaired, distracted, inattentive or otherwise negligent at the time? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway, which caused her to lose control of the vehicle? I trust traffic investigators are looking into these and other issues in order to determine who or what caused this injury crash.
Liability Issues
If the driver of the Buick was found to be at-fault for causing this accident, she could be held liable for the injuries to the other driver. If this accident was the result of an auto product defect, the auto maker or manufacturer of the defective product could be held liable as well. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer will be able to advise car accident victims about their legal rights and also, how their car insurance policy applies to their particular case.
