A woman and her dog were injured in a car accident in Orange County after her Toyota Camry slammed into a telephone pole the morning of November 16, 2009 at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Glassell Street in Orange, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the woman and the dog had to be extricated from the vehicle. The injured woman was taken to a local hospital. The dog sustained an injured leg and was taken to a veterinarian by firefighters.

I sympathize with this car accident victim. It's not clear how badly the woman was injured. I hope her injuries were not major or catastrophic. I wish her the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep this injured victim in your prayers.

Orange Car Accidents

There were 10 fatalities and 814 injuries involving Orange car accidents in 2007, according to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In Orange County as a whole, 178 deaths and 14,185 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.

Based on this news report, it is not clear how or why this injury crash occurred. There are still many questions here. Why did the woman lose control of her Toyota Camry? Many Toyota Camry models have lately, been the subject of a massive auto defect recall due to uncontrollable acceleration in the car. Was there a vehicle defect or a mechanical malfunction in the Toyota that caused her to lose control of the car? It would also, be important to find out if there was a dangerous condition on the roadway, which may have caused or contributed to the car accident. Was another vehicle involved in this crash – for example, was the woman cut off by another driver?

Who is Liable in Car Accidents?

If this accident was caused by an auto product defect, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective auto product could be held liable for the accident and resulting injuries and damages. If a dangerous or defective roadway caused the accident, then the city could be held liable as well. Such claims against governmental agencies in California must be filed within six months of the accident or injury. If a negligent driver caused the accident, then he or she should be held liable. An experienced Orange County personal injury lawyer will be able to help and guide car accident victims through what can be quite a complex process of filing compensation claims, and typically involving eyewitnesses, insurance companies, governmental agencies, large auto makers and attorneys for other parties.
