A 60-year-old woman was killed the afternoon of November 1, 2009 in an Orange County car accident after a driver rear-ended the vehicle she was in. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, a 27-year-old man was driving east on Alicia Parkway near Hon Avenue in Laguna Hills when he crashed into the back of another car occupied by a 58-year-old man, who was driving, and a 60-year-old female passenger.

The driver suffered head injuries and was taken to an area hospital where he has been listed in critical condition. The woman died at the scene. Officials are looking into whether the 27-year-old driver who caused the accident suffered a medical condition as a result of which he passed out before crashing. That driver and his 4-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries. None of the parties involved has been identified yet.

Tragic Car Accident

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this woman who was tragically killed in this unfortunate accident. She happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Please keep this family in your prayers. I also hope and pray that the critically injured driver survives his injuries and makes a complete recovery. He will be in my prayers as well.

According to California Highway Patrol's 2007 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), two fatalities and 189 injuries were reported as a result of serious car accidents in Laguna Hills, California. In Orange County as a whole, 178 deaths and 14,185 injuries were reported due to car accidents during that same year.

Car Accident Causes

Based on this news report, preliminary investigation suggests that the younger driver who rear-ended the other car may have suffered a medical condition that caused him to black out and crash into the vehicle in front of him. However, if I were a member of the victims' families, I would want to know exactly what medical condition he suffered. What was the evidence that officials looked at to establish that this young man had in fact suffered a medical condition? Some witnesses have commented to the news article saying the driver was speeding and had run red lights just before rear-ending the victims.

It would be in the best interest of car accident victims (or their families) in such cases to consult with an experienced Orange County personal injury claims lawyer, who will keep up with the official investigation and make sure that the victims and their families' legal rights are protected. If there was negligence or wrongdoing on the part of the other motorist, he should be held liable for the accident and fatal injuries.
