Two Injured in Ventura Car Accident
November 24th, 2009 | JohnTwo people sustained major injuries in a Ventura car accident on November 21, 2009 after the driver, 23-year-old Omead Afshar, lost control of the car and crashed into the median of Westlake Boulevard. According to a news report in the Ventura County Star, Afshar was driving west on Westlake near Cascade Avenue when the car entered the center median and crashed into several trees. Both Afshar and his passenger, 24-year-old Melissa Lynch, were trapped in the car and had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. Both were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
My heart goes out to Afshar and Lynch, the two victims who have suffered major injuries in this car accident. I wish them both the very best for a speedy and complete recovery. Please keep these injured victims in your prayers.
Ventura County Car Accident Statistics
There were 26 fatalities and 663 injuries involving car accidents in unincorporated areas of Ventura County in 2007, according to California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). Countywide, 71 deaths and 3,993 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents in 2007.
Based on this news report, it is not clear what caused Afshar to lose control of his vehicle. There are several unanswered questions here especially because the news report does not indicate that alcohol, drugs, fatigue or any other distraction played a part in this accident. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical malfunction in Afshar's vehicle that caused him to lose control and crash? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway, which may have caused or contributed to this accident? Was another vehicle involved in this crash? Was Afshar's car run off the roadway by another vehicle?
