A judge has granted actress Nicole Richie a temporary restraining order against two photographers, one of whom caused a Los Angeles car accident on October 5, 2009 injuring Ritchie. According to a news report in the New York Daily News, Richie got the court order against paparazzi Eduardo Arrivebene and Ivon Miguel. Both are now required to stay 100 yards away from 28-year-old Richie and her two children – Harlow, 21 months and Sparrow, 6 weeks. Richie is alleging the two photographers would stalk, harass and even scream at Richie and her family in an attempt to get a reaction from her. Also, the actress alleged that the men have chased her in their vehicle causing her "severe emotional distress."

Paparazzo Caused Beverly Hills Car Accident

The car accident last month occurred after Arrivebene, the photographer in question, rear-ended Richie's Land Rover on Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Richie was driving the vehicle when the accident occurred. Richie complained of pain, but told officials she would seek her own treatment. News agencies reported that she did visit her doctor and get treatment for those injuries. Arrivebene was arrested on suspicion of driving without a license, but later released on $1,225 bail. Thankfully, no one else was injured in the car crash. Ironically, this accident came barely three days after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill prohibiting paparazzi from taking illegal photos of stars and celebrities.

I'm glad that Richie and her two young children have been given this restraining order. It would certainly be an ordeal for this star or any young mother for that matter, to not be able to go about her daily life and take care of her kids without being chased down the street by paparazzi. Of course, celebrity comes with a price, but that price should not be a person's life or the life of his or her loved ones. I shudder to think what might have happened in this case had both vehicles been traveling at higher speeds on a local freeway.

Car Accident Liability Issues

The behavior exhibited by these photographers was reckless. They could have not only caused serious personal injury to Nicole Richie and her family, but also innocent bystanders -- pedestrians or occupants of other vehicles.
