A bicyclist has been injured in a Newport Beach car accident, after he was hit by a car at the intersection of Jamboree Road and Bison Avenue the morning of December 9, 2009, The Orange County Register reports. The driver of the car did not stop and left the scene of the accident. The bicycle rider, who was estimated to be in his mid-40s, was taken to an area trauma unit. The city of Auburn, California, is considering new dangerous dog regulations after a teenager was injured last September in a dog bite incident when four pit bulls attacked her. According to a news10 report, council members are looking into passing new laws to regulate aggressive dog breeds. But pit bull owners and activists are concerned that the city would try to impose a breed ban. People came to the council meeting with photos of their pit bulls in an attempt to convince officials that pit bulls can be "kind, sweet" dogs.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control, which releases statistics about dog bite incidents, does not mention dog breeds any more probably because of pressure from pit bull advocates, who probably know that their favorite breed of dog will top those charts. But a nonprofit organization in Seattle called Dogsbite.org has released 2005 dog bite statistics and categorized the number of dog attacks by breed.

A woman suffered serious injuries in a California dog bite incident in Delhi, California, the morning of October 1, 2009 after she and her dog were attacked by a pit bull. According to a news report in the Modesto Bee, the woman was walking her own dog when the 60-pound pit bull charged her and bit one of her arms. The woman tried to fight off the dog, which let go and bit the other arm. The woman then escaped and ran to a nearby house when the pit bull got a hold of her dog by its throat, Merced County sheriff's officials said.

A 3-year-old girl has been hospitalized with serious injuries she suffered in an Orange County dog bite incident after she was mauled by her family's pit bull in the backyard of their home in Fullerton, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the dog attack occurred the night of September 7, 2009 when the toddler was in the backyard. A probation officer who was involved in a Los Angeles dog bite incident shot at a pit bull that was charging toward him, but may have struck the dog owner with a ricochet instead, according to a news report in the Pasadena Star News. The Los Angeles probation officer along with others was in the middle of a scheduled visit on August 7, 2009, to the owner of a home in Duarte, California, when the shooting occurred. During their search of the home, the officers entered the man's backyard.

According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Gardner and his wife, Anne Breuer, were exiting their car to get lunch at a local restaurant with their poodle, the afternoon of July 29, 2009, when a 70-pound gray and white pit bull charged and grabbed Tizzy by the neck. A 4-year-old boy in Riverside was hospitalized after he suffered severe dog bite injuries when a neighbor's Golden Retriever mix bit him in the face the night of June 19, 2009, The Press-Enterprise reports. The child, who has not been identified, suffered multiple punctures to his face. His parents told officials that the boy, who was playing in a neighbor's yard without supervision may have accidentally stepped on the dog's tail. Animal Control officials impounded the 2-year-old female dog and have quarantined it for 10 days. Officials have not yet decided whether the dog is aggressive or vicious.
