One person was killed and another was critically injured in a Riverside car accident during the early morning hours of December 18, 2011. According to a KPSP news report, the car crash occurred on Harrison Street and Avenue 50 in Coachella. Officials are trying to determine what led to this single-vehicle accident. Both occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be freed by emergency crews. One of the victims died at the scene and the other was taken by helicopter with critical injuries to an area trauma center.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the fatally injured victim of this tragic accident. My thoughts and prayers are also with the critically injured victim. I wish the person the very best for a speedy and complete recovery.

Riverside Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol’s 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), five people were killed and 59 were injured in Coachella car accidents. During that same year, there were 203 fatalities and 7,974 injuries reported as a result of Riverside County car accidents.

What Caused This Single-Vehicle Crash?

Based on this news report, the cause of this accident is currently under investigation. There are still several unanswered questions that remain here. Did an auto defect or mechanical malfunction cause or contribute to this fatal incident? Was the driver exceeding the speed limit before losing control? The crash occurred shortly after midnight. Was the driver fatigued or distracted? Was another vehicle involved? Did a dangerous roadway condition contribute to the accident? I trust investigators are looking into these and other factors in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

Liability Issues

If the driver is determined to have been at fault in this case, he or she can be held liable for the passenger's injuries or wrongful death. If a vehicle defect caused this crash, then, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective product can be held liable. In such cases, it would be in the best interests of the victim's family members to preserve the vehicle intact so an expert can thoroughly examine it for product defects, malfunctions and other evidence. An experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer will better advise victims and their families about their legal rights and options.

Annette Lujan, 48, of Huntington Beach, was killed in an elevator accident after a 2,000-pound elevator dropped on top of her. According to a news report in the Los Angeles Times the fatal accident occurred on December 7, 2011 when Lujan, a nine-year employee of the university's grants and contracts office, was riding the elevator. Officials say the car got stuck between the second and third floors.

Lujan climbed out of the elevator when it started moving again. The victim was then crushed as the car fell on her. It took emergency personnel more than one hour to lift the elevator off of her. Lujan was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials are investigating the cause of the elevator malfunction. A spokeswoman for the California Department of Industrial Relations told reporters that the elevator had last been inspected in April and had received "a clean bill of health."

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members, friends and co-workers of Annette Lujan for their devastating loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Elevator Accident Statistics

On an average, about 27 people are killed in elevator accidents each year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Injuries as a result of elevator accidents affect about 10,200 people per year with a majority of these accidents being related to elevator door malfunction, carriage misalignment with floors and other passenger safety issues. BLS statistics also show that nearly 50 percent of elevator-related fatalities in the United States occur among repair or maintenance workers or among people who use elevators as part of their employment, such as, in an office building.

What Caused This Accident?

There are a number of ways in which elevators can malfunction. A pulley system malfunction, mechanical breakdown, or a defective product or part, for example, can cause an elevator to drop rapidly within the shaft. In this particular case, there are several questions. Did faulty wiring or improper maintenance play a part? Were the inspections conducted properly and by qualified personnel? What brand of elevator was involved in this accident? Is there a known history of mechanical or other failures related to the particular brand of elevator? This accident also underscores the dangers of passengers trying to exit or climb out of a stalled elevator.

Liability Issues

If a defective elevator or another product defect caused this accident, then the manufacturer of the elevator or the faulty part can be held liable for Lujan's wrongful death. If the university is determined to have improperly or inadequately maintained the elevators, then, the university can also be held liable. Victims' families in such cases would be well advised to contact an experienced Long Beach personal injury lawyer, who will stay abreast of the official investigation and make sure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.

Nadia Mikaela Strandberg, 21, and Johnathan David Edwards, 23, were killed in a San Bernardino car accident after tire tread separation caused their vehicle to go out of control and roll over. According to a news report in The San Bernardino County Sun, the fatal rollover accident occurred early morning on August 6, 2011 on the eastbound 40 Freeway, near Essex Road, in Essex. Strandberg was driving a 1988 Volvo station wagon when the tread on a back tire separated. The station wagon swerved off the road and flipped several times. Both Strandberg and her passenger, Edwards, were pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family members and friends of Nadia Mikaela Strandberg and Johnathan David Edwards for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

San Bernardino Car Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2009 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 83 fatalities and 1,704 injuries involving car accidents in the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County. Also, during the same year, car accidents countywide claimed 223 lives and injured 7,870 people.

Tread Belt Separation

Based on this news report, this fatal rollover crash was caused by tire tread separation. However, it is not clear what caused the tread to separate. Was this the result of a defective tire, or lack of proper tire maintenance? Tread belt separations are usually the result of poor bonding during the manufacturing process. This could result from using a bad formula that does not bond well, the presence of contaminants in the tire, using old ingredients, air trapped between the layers of the tire or improperly sized strips used during the manufacturing process. As evidenced in this tragic car accident, tire tread separation can cause catastrophic injuries or even death.

Victims' Rights

Families of deceased victims would be well-advised to preserve the vehicle, especially the tire, so it can be carefully examined by an expert for product defects. If a defectively manufactured tire caused this accident, the auto maker can be held liable for the victims' wrongful deaths. An experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer who has successfully handled auto products liability cases will better advise families in such cases about their legal rights and options.

GlaxoSmithKline recently announced that it will be selling Alli, an over-the-counter diet drug launched in 2007. They claim they are dropping the drug, along with several other over-the-counter brands, to focus on other global priorities.

The pharmaceutical giant believed that the drug could be the company’s next best thing, and rolled it out with an extensive marketing campaign that included television, print, and Internet ads, as well as an interactive website and book with diet advice and recipes.

Sales of Alli, which is a weaker, non-prescription form of the diet drug Xenical, have continued to decline since 2007. It is thought that warnings by the company of sudden and uncontrollable diarrhea if the correct diet was not adhered to, followed by reports last year that some of those who had taken the drug experienced liver damage, have had a negative impact on sales.

Several public interest groups have asked that both Alli and Xenical are banned due to reports of liver damage. While GlaxoSmithKline maintains that the drugs are safe when taken as directed, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently said that both drugs should contain warnings about the rare reports of severe liver injury. The agency, however, also admitted that it wasn’t certain that the drugs caused the injury.

When consumers take an over-the-counter or prescription drug, they assume it is safe. When a drug causes medical problems and complications that the consumer is not warned about, and that result in serious injury, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures the drug may be responsible. If you or someone you love has been injured by Alli, Xenical, or any other over-the-counter or prescription drug, you may be due damages. Schedule a free and confidential appointment with a Pennsylvania injury attorney, to discuss potential compensation.

A supplier in Northern California is recalling 64,000 pounds of chicken and pork products due to food poisoning concerns. According to an Associated Press news report, Taylor Farms Pacific of Tracy is recalling the foods because some broccoli in the products was found to be contaminated with listeria. The recall came after routine testing discovered the contamination. The recalled items were produced between February 6, 2011 and February 23, 2011 and shipped to several locations in California, Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming. So far, there have been so reports of illnesses linked to these products.

Food Poisoning Trends

Food poisoning and recalls relating to food contamination have significantly increased in the United States over the last five years. The Department of Health and Human Services reports that each year, 5,000 people die after consuming contaminated foods. It is also a fact that food safety inspections have dropped considerably in recent years. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspects fewer than 25 percent of food production facilities each year. Inspections of foreign food producers are even more rare or possibly, non-existent, leaving most food producers to police themselves.

Listeriosis Symptoms

Listeriosis is the bacterial infection that is caused by listeria bacteria. The most common symptoms of listeriosis are nausea, diarrhea, fever and muscle aches. Symptoms may start a few days after you have consumed the tainted food. However, sometimes, symptoms may not surface for as long as two months after you have eaten the contaminated food. If the infection spreads to the nervous system, you may experience other symptoms such as headache, stiffness, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. Listeriosis can have devastating consequences for pregnant women. An infection during pregnancy may result in a miscarriage. Listeriosis has the potential to cause death or serious injury.

Liability Issues in Food Poisoning Cases

If you have been sickened after eating a product, it would be a good idea to "preserve the evidence" if you have any of the tainted food left over. Make sure you package it and mark it so no one else consumes it. It would also be a good idea to get prompt medical attention, especially if you have food poisoning symptoms. If you are pregnant and believe you may have consumed a product tainted with listeria, contact your doctor right away. Also, report the incident to your local health care agency. An experienced California personal injury lawyer who has successfully handled food poisoning cases will be able to better advise victims about their legal rights and options.

Seriously injured in a California food poisoning incident? Want to know if you have a case? Want to know what your case is worth? Want compensation for your injuries? Want justice? Want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to someone else?

Raul Magana, 45, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after the vehicle he was driving went out of control and rolled over. According to a news report in The San Bernardino County Sun, the fatal car accident occurred in the 2600 block of West Atchison Street in San Bernardino the morning of January 4, 2011. Magana's vehicle had flipped over and come to rest in a ditch near railroad tracks. He was trapped in the van and died shortly after the accident.

I offer my deepest condolences to everyone who knew and loved Raul Magana for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Please keep this grieving family in your thoughts and prayers.

Accident Statistics

According to California Highway Patrol's 2008 Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were 30 fatalities and 1,066 injuries involving car accidents in the city of San Bernardino. Countywide, car accidents claimed 263 lives and injured 8,504 during the same year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that about 10,000 people are killed each year in the United States as a result of rollover accidents. This number accounts for about 25 percent of all traffic accident fatalities in the country.

Causes and Liability Issues

Based on this news report, it is not quite clear how or why this rollover accident occurred. There are several unanswered questions here. Was there a vehicle defect or mechanical flaw in the vehicle that Magana was driving, which may have caused him to lose control? Was there a dangerous condition on the roadway? Was the accident caused by another driver who forced Magana to take evasive action and lose control of the vehicle? I trust officials are looking into these and other issues in order to determine precisely what occurred here and why.

If a vehicle defect or design flaw caused this incident, Magana's family can file an auto products liability claim against the manufacturer of the defective vehicle. In such cases, it is a good idea to preserve the vehicle in its crashed state so it can be carefully examined for vehicle defects, malfunctions and other evidence. An experienced San Bernardino personal injury lawyer will be able to better advise families of deceased car accident victims about their legal rights and options.

Lost a family member in a San Bernardino County car accident? Want to know your rights? Want to know what your case is worth? Want compensation? Want justice? Want to ensure the same thing doesn’t happen to another family?

Call your best friends in the legal industry after a fatal San Bernardino car accident. Call 866-594-7392. The call is free. The advice may be priceless.

Three people injured in a car accident caused by tire tread separation, have been identified by authorities as Susan Baxter, 60, her 5-year-old granddaughter Eleanor Baxter and a big rig driver, Izaak Davis, 37. The Red Bluff Daily News reports that the major injury crash occurred the afternoon of August 6, 2010 on the 5 Freeway at Sunset Hills Drive in Tehama County. Baxter lost control of her Ford F-350 pickup truck after the tire tread on her right front tire came off. She crashed into a tractor-trailer driven by Davis. Susan Baxter sustained major injuries while Eleanor and Davis suffered less severe injuries.

My heart goes out to everyone who was injured in this crash. I wish them all the very best for a swift and full recovery. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Tire Tread Separation

Tire defects, whether in passenger cars, motorcycles or other vehicles, can definitely lead to serious injury accidents. When tire tread separation occurs in a van, SUV or light truck, it can have devastating consequences because these are vehicles that are prone to rollovers. Whether the defect is related to tire pressure or tire tread separation, when a vehicle's tire fails, the driver has very little control over his or her vehicle. Even an experienced driver will not be able to control his or her car if the tire tread separation occurs suddenly – especially if it happens at freeway speeds.

Auto Product Liability Issues

In this case, I would be curious to find out if the accident occurred due to an auto product defect – specifically, a tire defect. If the tire tread separation that occurred in this case is proven to be the result of a manufacturing or design defect, then, the auto maker or the manufacturer of the defective tire can be held liable for Baxter's major injuries and losses.

It would be in the best interests of injured victims and their families to preserve the vehicle in its current, crashed condition, so it can be carefully examined by an expert for product defects, malfunctions, design defects and other evidence. A reputed California personal injury lawyer, who has a successful track record with auto product liability cases will be able to give victims more information about how to pursue their legal rights.

How often do you check if your tires are properly inflated and in good condition?

Victims who have suffered injuries in an SUV rollover accident are faced with a number of new issues to deal with.

Victims who have suffered injuries in an SUV rollover accident are faced with a number of new issues to deal with. It is important to keep calm, continue to treat your injuries, and consult with a personal injury lawyer. There are important details which you will need to document and examine in order to receive just compensation for your auto products liability claim.

When examining a rollover accident it is important to examine the car. You should notice more than just the fact that your SUV or truck rolled over. Look at the roof and see if it has pushed in toward the dashboard. In some circumstances the roof of the car will crush in during a rollover accident. This can cause fatal or catastrophic personal injuries to the occupant's head and neck.

If any of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle it could be blamed on the passengers for not wearing seatbelts. If you know the passengers to be avid seatbelt users it is a good idea to investigate. In some causes a defective belt can unlatch during a collision. In order to prove or disprove seatbelt usage, you will need to hire an experienced auto products liability lawyer.

After an accident it is important that you and your family find an experienced personal injury attorney in Newport Beach. A skilled injury attorney can help you obtain a fair settlement for your accident. Most personal injury lawyers will offer a free, no obligation consultation. The best lawyers will even offer a no fee guarantee.
