A March 1, 2010 Orange County car accident that injured an elderly couple was caused by a suspected drunk driver who is also an Orange County Sheriff's deputy. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the crash injured Benjamin and Dolores Molina. Deputy Allan James Waters was driving his 2008 Mercedes erratically on the Street of the Golden Lantern, in Laguna Niguel, when he made an unsafe turn to the right striking the Molinas' Toyota. After the verdict was announced, the attorneys for the insurance company told the judge they would appeal the amount of the verdict and request a new trial. A 13-year-old boy was critically injured in a San Francisco car accident after he was hit by an elderly driver while crossing a street in Hayward. According to a CBS News report, the major injury collision occurred late afternoon on February 7, 2010. California Highway Patrol officials said the boy was running across Hesperian Boulevard toward West A Street when he was struck by a 1976 Chevy Nova driven by an 84-year-old woman. The boy was about 30 feet outside of a crosswalk. The driver was traveling at about 35 mph and was not able to stop in time to avoid the collision. The teenager sustained major injuries including skull fractures, hip and internal injuries. He is still in critical condition and an investigation into the accident is ongoing. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, 33-year-old Juan Delgado Jr. was speeding south on the 55 Freeway, near 19th Street, the afternoon of February 9, 2010, when the accident occurred. Juan Carlos Navarro, 38, was killed in a San Diego car accident after his bicycle was hit by a city truck in an Oak Park area intersection the afternoon of February 8, 2010. According to a 10news report, the fatal bicycle accident occurred at the intersection of Krenning Street and College Grove Drive. Navarro was pronounced dead at the scene.
