A man was killed in a San Diego car accident involving a hit-and-run driver. According to a news report in The San Diego Union-Tribune, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred on the Interstate 8 in the College Area of San Diego the early morning of April 9, 2011. The victim was a passenger in a Ford Ranger pickup truck that had crashed into the center divider.

The passenger then exited the pickup after the collision and was on the roadway, when he was struck by a small sized Toyota or Nissan and thrown over the center divider. On Thursday, November 11, 2010, Chrysler and GM announced recalls for a combined 30,000 defective cars due to a faulty windshield wiper system and power steering problems. There have been no accidents or injuries reported as a result of the recalls. GM and Chrysler are committed to repairing and replacing defective parts at no charge to the owner.

Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne Recalls

GM is recalling about 14,000 sedans because of power steering problems. The recall involves certain 2010 and 2011 Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne sedans with V8 engines. Most of the 14,000 recalled vehicles are the Cadillac DTS. The recalled sedans have alternator cables that can potentially wear through a power steering line which can in turn lead to a fluid leak. A fluid leak could cause a loss of power steering which can cause an accident, injuries or worse. If the fluid leaks onto hot engine parts it could cause a fire.

Jeep Liberty Windshield Recall

Chrysler's recall involves more than 16,000 Jeep Liberty SUVs because of faulty windshield wiper systems. Chrysler’s 2008 model of the SUV is being recalled to replace the windshield wiper motor. The faulty system allows water to get into the wiper motor which can stop the wipers, reducing a driver’s visibility. If the system fails while a car is in motion, it could cause an car accident.

The recall was discovered after the automaker saw a higher rate of faulty wiper motor failures in the 2008 Jeep Liberty. In June 2008, Chrysler's Toledo Assembly began using a different motor which likely rectified the problem.

The U.S. Food And Drug Administration recently notified Cal-Main Foods Inc. that the eggs they purchased from Ohio Fresh Eggs tested positive for the salmonella bacterium. As a result, 288,000 eggs were recalled due to potential food poisoning. Cal-Maine purchased eggs from Ohio Fresh, a company located in Croton, Ohio that were processed on October 9 though the October 12. The eggs were then distributed across the country to California, Kansas, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Illinois. On November 5th, Ohio Fresh became aware of the fact that many of the distributed eggs contained salmonella. The sell by dates on the contaminated eggs were from November 7 through November 24.

Bad Eggs Again

This recent contamination comes just a couple of months after one of the largest egg recalls in history which resulted in thousands of cases of salmonella poisoning for many those who ate the contaminated eggs. The current recall has had no food poisoning cases reported so far.

What is Salmonella?

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that impacts the intestines about 12-72 hours after eating the contaminated food. The effects include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps that last about a week and in rare cases longer. Food borne illnesses are more likely to affect infants, the elderly and those with impaired immune systems.

The Food and Drug Administration

Because of the number of recent salmonella outbreaks and recalls, citizens and government agencies have shown a great deal of concern. Two Passengers Suffer Severe Personal Injury in Rollover Accident

Stacey Schrock and Christina Monroe were passengers in a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo on October 24, 2008. They were traveling westbound on Interstate 84 near Burley, Idaho, when suddenly the driver inexplicably lost control of the car. Despite the driver's attempts to maneuver the vehicle safely, the SUV steering was over-corrected, causing the SUV to careen toward the center meridian, skid, rotate clockwise, and rollover. The rollover accident caused the two women to be ejected from the vehicle and suffer massive brain injuries.

The lawsuit brought against the defendants -- Isuzu, its subsidiaries, and affiliates -- alleges that the accident occurred due to serious defects inherent in the Rodeo's design.

Isuzu Vehicle Built with Numerous Defects

The alleged defects in the 2001 Isuzu Rodeo involved in this car accident include:

1. Insufficient lateral roll stability
2. Defective and unsafe seats.
3. Defective seatbelt system.
4. Defective glass and glazing in the side and rear windows

The insufficient roll stability caused the vehicle to rollover under otherwise ordinary steering and maneuvering. During the rollover, the defective seats and seatbelts allowed the women to become unrestrained in the vehicle and be thrown from the vehicle through the defective windows, which were not strong enough to withstand the force of the rollover.

Simple Solutions to Rodeo's Defects Available, Ignored by Defendants

"Not only were the defendants aware the Isuzu Rodeo was defective and dangerous, they failed to fix the problems or warn the public about those problems," said Brian Chase, partner at BISNAR | CHASE and co-counsel in the case. "Despite the availability of simple solutions that would fix these problems, the defendants chose to cut costs at the expense of human safety."
