Charmmaine Ouk, 25, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after a vehicle struck her when she got out of the car she was riding in, the morning on January 15, 2010. According to a news report on KPCC Radio's Web site, Ouk was a passenger in a car driven by another woman when she became sick and got out of the vehicle in an alley. She then apparently ran onto Normandie Avenue, near 204th Street, where she was struck by a gray or brown minivan whose driver did not stop. The van was last seen going north on Normandie in the Harbor Gateway area. Hwa Rhee, 78, was killed in an Orange County car accident after she was struck by a vehicle while carrying groceries along a street in Garden Grove, California. Police officials found the elderly woman injured and lying on the westbound lanes of Garden Grove Boulevard, near Sungrove Street. Rhee was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe she may have been struck by a silver Ford F150 pickup truck, which was witnessed leaving the scene. Javier Escobar Jr., 26, was killed in a Riverside car accident the night of December 14, 2009, after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed on the Interstate 10. According to a news report in The Desert Sun, Escobar was driving on the 10 Freeway eastbound when he lost control of his Jeep near Date Palm Drive. The Jeep hit the center divider and rolled at least two times. Escobar was ejected from the vehicle and died later at a local hospital. California Highway Patrol officials suspect that both speed and alcohol were factors in this fatal car accident. Read the rest of this entry »

A man was killed in a fiery Ventura car accident the morning of December 15, 2009 after he lost control of his car, the Ventura County Star reports. The fatal car accident occurred near the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Avenida De Los Arboles. The man, who has not yet been identified, was driving east on Avenida De Los Arboles, when his car went off the roadway. The car then struck a tree on an embankment along the side of the road and then went down a ravine, before catching fire. The driver, the only person in the car, died at the scene. Elizabeth Amstone, 18, was killed in a Los Angeles car accident after the driver of the car in which she was a passenger lost control and crashed the vehicle in Irwindale. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the car accident occurred the morning of December 1, 2009 after a 1995 Acura Integra, driven by Deshawn Johnson, 17, heading southbound on the 605 Freeway near Arrow Highway, veered to the right and on to a dirt embankment before rolling over on the shoulder. Amstone was ejected and fell partially on to the far right lane, California Highway Patrol officials said. It is not clear how fast the car was going or why it went off the road. CHP officials are not sure whether Amstone was wearing her seatbelt. She died at the scene while Deshawn escaped with minor injuries to his left hand and right leg.

Carlos Gomez-Nila, 35, was killed in an Orange County car accident after he was struck by two vehicles while crossing the street. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Gomez-Nila was walking on Western Avenue near Tyler Avenue in Anaheim the night of November 22, 2009 when a Toyota Camry going north struck him. He apparently got up and tried to walk, but was then fatally hit by a Toyota RAV4 heading south on Western, Anaheim police said. Officials said the driver of the RAV4 saw the pedestrian and tried to swerve out of the way but failed to do so. Gomez-Nila died at the scene.

A 26-year-old man was fatally injured in a San Bernardino, California motorcycle accident after he lost control of his 2005 Kawasaki Ninja and crashed into a garage the afternoon of November 17, 2009, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports. The man, who is yet to be identified, was riding his Kawasaki near a friend's house when he lost control and crashed into the garage door. The incident occurred in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The man was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department's Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into this fatal motorcycle crash.

A 24-year-old skateboarder has died in a San Diego car accident after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. The man, who has not been identified, was heading west in the right eastbound lane of Hacienda Drive near South Emerald Drive in Vista early morning on November 15, 2009 when he was hit by a white 1987 BMW driven by a 23-year-old man. Apparently, witnesses told officials that the skateboarder crossed directly into the path of the car, which was heading east. The victim was treated at the scene, but he reportedly died before being taken to the hospital. The driver of the BMW has not been arrested pending a police investigation.
