Three people were injured, one seriously, in a dog bite incident in Stockton, the afternoon of May 16, 2010, The Stockton Record reports. Two pit bulls apparently bit a 6-year-old girl, 10-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man who was babysitting the two children. The girl, whose father is said to be the dogs' owner, was the most seriously injured. Officials say she suffered a broken arm, bites to her legs and body, and will require surgery. However, she is expected to survive the dog attack.
When officers arrived at the scene they saw seven dogs in an enclosed metal fence and two pit bulls mauling other dogs. The officers shot the pair of pit bulls and both the wounded dogs were put down shortly afterward. The 10-year-old boy suffered a bite to his hand and the babysitter was bitten on his ankle. An investigation is ongoing.

Dog Bite Statistics

This dog bite fatality finding is more or less consistent with an earlier report released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, which states that pit bulls and Rottweilers together account for 60 percent of fatal dog attacks, nationwide.
