California Car Accident Reports

Mauricio Vigo, 9, sustained fatal injuries in a Los Angeles car accident after a vehicle struck him at a street intersection, as he was riding his scooter. According to a news report in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Mauricio was riding a scooter downhill turning from Wesleyan Avenue to Temple Avenue, in Walnut, the afternoon of February 7, 2010, when he collided with a 2008 Mercedes Benz SUV driven by a 49-year-old man. The boy was airlifted to an area hospital where he died from his injuries. The driver has not been cited or arrested pending a police investigation. Read the rest of this entry »

One person was injured in a San Francisco pedestrian accident after being struck by a Muni light rail vehicle. According to a news report in the San Francisco Examiner, the injury accident occurred the afternoon of January 28, 2010 near the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Judah Street. A teenager has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run Long Beach car accident that nearly killed prominent defense lawyer, 60-year-old Lynda Vitale, the night of December 15, 2009. According to The Press Telegram, Vitale was walking her dog and crossing the intersection of 36th Street and Myrtle Avenue when a vehicle hit her. Vitale was about half way through the unmarked crosswalk at the intersection, when she was hit so violently and suddenly that she had no idea what hit her, officials say. Thomas Klopfstein, 58, was fatally injured in a San Diego car accident after a pickup truck driven by a Chula Vista city councilman struck him as he was crossing the road the morning of December 3, 2009. According to a 10 news report, Klopfstein was walking on Campo Road near Community Building Road at the time of the pedestrian-car crash. The driver, Rudy Ramirez, 49, told investigators that he did not see Klopfstein walk in front of his eastbound Toyota Tundra because the sun was in his eyes. Ramirez has not been cited for the accident.

Carlos Gomez-Nila, 35, was killed in an Orange County car accident after he was struck by two vehicles while crossing the street. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, Gomez-Nila was walking on Western Avenue near Tyler Avenue in Anaheim the night of November 22, 2009 when a Toyota Camry going north struck him. He apparently got up and tried to walk, but was then fatally hit by a Toyota RAV4 heading south on Western, Anaheim police said. Officials said the driver of the RAV4 saw the pedestrian and tried to swerve out of the way but failed to do so. Gomez-Nila died at the scene.

Darlene Johnson, 65, was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after she was struck by a vehicle the evening of November 10, 2009. According to a news report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Johnson was walking on Southwood Lane near the corner of Westwood Lane in Highland, California, when she was hit by a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup was apparently making a left turn onto Westwood from Southwood, when the collision occurred. The driver stopped and called emergency personnel. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman sustained head injuries in an Orange County car accident after she was hit by a car while crossing a street in Irvine, California. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the woman was walking across Irvine Center Drive at Harvard Avenue the night of November 3, 2009 when she was hit by a Lexus ES 350 sedan, which was traveling west on the street. Police are still looking into what caused this injury pedestrian accident. Anyone who witnessed this accident is asked to contact Irvine police at 949-724-7024.

A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured in a Newport Beach car accident after he was hit by a Dodge pickup truck the morning of October 30, 2009. According to a news report in The Orange County Register, the accident occurred along MacArthur Boulevard near Ford Road. The pickup truck was apparently traveling south on MacArthur when the boy ran out into traffic, Newport Beach police officials said. The boy was transported to an area hospital and was said to have been "alert and talking" at the time. His condition was however listed as serious.

A 7-year-old child sustained injuries in a San Diego car accident the morning of October 22, 2009 on the way to school. According to a 10news report, the child was hit on Byrd Street near Finney Elementary School in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego. Paramedics took the injured child to an area hospital. The identity, gender or nature of injuries to the child, are not known at this time.

Zhen Huang, 48, suffered critical injuries in an California car accident after she was struck by a pickup truck while crossing a busy intersection in Stanton, California. According to The Orange County Register, Huang was walking home the afternoon of October 20, 2009 when the pedestrian-car accident occurred. Huang was walking in a marked crosswalk, but cut a corner as she neared the curb. It was then that a light blue truck making a left from Pacific Avenue on to Magnolia hit her. But the driver did not stop. Instead Huang was dragged about 10 feet. The truck then slowed down briefly and drove away.
